Uvents is a campus events and societies platform built for university students in Ireland. We take your privacy seriously. This policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and your rights under GDPR.

1. Who We Are

Uvents is operated by Uvents Ltd, based in Ireland. If you have any questions about this policy or your data, contact us at privacy@uvents.ie.

2. What Data We Collect

When you create an account and use Uvents we collect the following:

Your full name and university student email address
Your university and course
Your profile photo if you choose to upload one
Your role on the platform — student or admin
Societies you subscribe to and events you attend or purchase tickets for
Notification preferences you set within the app
Payment transaction records for ticket purchases and society subscriptions
Device information and push notification tokens for sending notifications

3. How We Use Your Data

We use your data only for the following purposes:

To create and manage your account
To verify that you are a registered student at a supported university by validating your email domain
To personalise your experience — showing you events and societies relevant to your university
To send you notifications about society newsletters, upcoming events and campus deals based on your preferences
To process payments for society subscriptions and event tickets
To store and display society newsletters you have subscribed to
To improve the app and fix issues

4. Email Domain Verification

To ensure Uvents remains a platform for verified university students only, we validate your email address against your selected university's domain during sign up. For example, UCD students must register with a valid @ucdconnect.ie address. Emails that do not match the selected university's domain will not be accepted.

5. Payments

All payments on Uvents — including the €2 society subscription fee and event ticket purchases — are processed securely via Stripe. Uvents does not store your full card details. Stripe handles all payment data in accordance with PCI DSS standards. You can view Stripe's privacy policy at stripe.com/ie/privacy.

A record of your transactions including the item, date and amount is stored in your account so you can view your purchase history in the app.

6. Data Storage and Security

Your data is stored securely using Supabase, hosted on servers in the EU (eu-west-1). We use industry standard security practices including encrypted connections and access controls. Only authorised personnel can access user data and only where necessary.

7. Data Retention

We retain your data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account all personal data associated with it will be permanently deleted within 30 days, except where we are required by law to retain certain records such as payment history.

8. Your Rights Under GDPR

As a user based in Ireland or the EU you have the following rights:

Right of access — you can request a copy of all data we hold about you
Right to rectification — you can ask us to correct inaccurate data
Right to erasure — you can request that we delete your account and all associated data
Right to restrict processing — you can ask us to limit how we use your data
Right to data portability — you can request your data in a machine readable format
Right to object — you can object to how we process your data

9. Cookies

The Uvents mobile app does not use cookies. If you visit our website, standard analytics cookies may be used to understand traffic. You can opt out at any time.

10. Third Party Services

Uvents uses the following third party services which may process your data:

Supabase — database and authentication
Stripe — payment processing
Expo — mobile app infrastructure and push notifications
Apple / Google — app distribution only

11. Children

Uvents is intended for third level university students. Users must be at least 16 years of age in accordance with GDPR digital consent requirements in Ireland. If you are under 16 you must have consent from a parent or guardian to use this app. If you believe someone under the age of 16 has created an account without consent please contact us and we will remove it immediately.

12. Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. When we do we will update the date at the top of this page and notify users through the app where appropriate. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
